Important Updates: The University of Sydney Preparation Programs Admission Policy

We are pleased to announce the latest updates regarding the admission requirements for the University of Sydney Foundation Program. Please review the key changes below:
1. Academic Evaluation of Language Subjects
Language subjects from all educational systems (including Chinese Standard High School Curriculum, O-Level, IGCSE, A-Level, and IB) are now recognized as Academic Subjects for admission evaluation.
  • Example: Chinese and English language subjects on a Chinese High School transcript are now accepted towards the academic score requirement.
2. Recognition of IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR)
We now accept IELTS One Skill Retake for admission purposes.
  • Example: If the requirement for the Standard Foundation Program is 
    , and a student achieves an overall score of 
    5.5
     (with 
    5.5
     in Listening, Speaking, and Writing, but 
    5.0
     in Reading), the student can retake the Reading section. Once the Reading score reaches 
    5.5
    , the updated result is acceptable for entry.
3. Pathway for the October Intensive Program
For the October Intensive Foundation Program (IELTS requirement: 
), students who achieve an IELTS score of 
 are eligible to package with the 10-week Academic English Preparation (AEP) program starting in June.
  • Note: The availability of packaging AEP with the Intensive Program for next year remains to be confirmed.
4. TOEFL / PTE Equivalencies for IELTS 
There are currently no direct equivalency requirements for TOEFL or PTE for the IELTS 
 band. To apply, students must submit their TOEFL or PTE score reports directly to the Admissions Office. The team will forward the documents to the Language Center to assess eligibility for a package offer with the 10-week AEP for the Standard Foundation Program.
