University of Essex Announces IHS Bursary for International Postgraduates

The University of Essex has confirmed a one-off bursary to support international students starting their Postgraduate Taught (PGT) programs in October 2024 or January 2025. This financial support is specifically designed to help cover the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) fees, with a maximum award of £776.
Notably, the university’s Colchester Campus features a dedicated on-site Health Centre, ensuring students have direct access to professional medical services throughout their studies.
Bursary Eligibility & Key Information
  • Target Audience: International (non-UK) students holding a valid Student Visa.
  • Eligible Programs: Full-time taught Master’s degrees (MA, MSc, LLM, MRes, MPP, MBM, MBA) starting in October 2024 or January 2025.
    • Note: Masters by Dissertation (MAD/MSD) are excluded.
  • Maximum Award: Up to £776.
  • Payment Timeline: The bursary will be disbursed upon the successful completion of the course.
  • Enrollment Requirement: Students must remain fully registered at the time of payment.
  • Financial Terms: Applicants must have completed the payment of two tuition installments for the 2024-25 academic year.
  • Documentation: Proof of current leave to remain (BRP or eVisa) is required.
  • Pathway Students: Students from the University of Essex International College (UEIC) – including Pre-sessional English and Pre-Masters students – are eligible upon progression and registration for their main degree. For those on a joint visa, the bursary applies to the duration associated with the main course of study.
